Pre-demolition procedures in concrete structures.

Prior to carrying out any building demolition, detailed building appraisal by means of surveys and appropriate assessments shall be required. In general, the surveys shall include a Building Survey and a Structural Survey with photographs or videos taken for future reference. Based on the findings of these surveys, a demolition plan shall then be prepared

Building Survey
Prior to the Building Survey, the existing record plan, including layout plan showing adjoining properties, pedestrian walkway, roads and street, etc. shall be retrieved.
Potential dangerous areas, e.g., abnormal layouts, presence of enclosed voids, and non-ventilated light wells which may trap obnoxious gas at the bottom.
Unless the Building Survey reviews that no obvious hazardous material is present in the building, the Authorized Person shall cause proper sampling and testing for the hazardous materials;
Prior to the Structural Survey, the existing record layout, structural framing plans and structural details shall be studied. The Registered Structural Engineer shall check the presence of unusual detailing that may cause abnormal structural behavior during demolition, e.g., upward anchor of tensile reinforcement in cantilevered structures. If existing record plans are available, these plans shall be used as reference and preferably be brought along with the Structural Survey.

Demolition Plan
1) A plan showing :
the location of the building to be demolished, details of ground removal and/or backfilling; and the distances from the building to be demolished to its adjacent buildings, streets, structures and significant street furniture.
(2) A layout plan of all floors of the building to be demolished, with adequate sections,
(3) A plan showing the procedure for the demolition of the building; detailed sequence of demolishing particular structural members; and the method of demolition to be adopted including the restrictions on the use of any particular type of equipment.
(4) A plan showing the proposed shoring and temporary support to be provided to the building to be demolished.

Stability Report including Calculations
(1) a report on the stability of the building to be demolished during all stages of demolition;
(2) in the case when powered mechanical plants or equipment are used, structural calculations for all temporary supports and bracings;
(3) a report on the stability of neighboring buildings, adjoining properties
(4) a report with calculations demonstrating that the demolition work will not render inadequate the margin of safety of, or cause damage to any building, structure, street, land and services.

Utilities
Termination of Utilities (electricity, gas, water, sewage, etc.)
Effects of Demolition on Utilities should be considered.

Differences between development length, anchorage length and splice length

  1-Development length Ld It is the minimum length of a reinforcing bar that must be embedded or "developed" in concrete to ensure that the bar can achieve its full strength in tension or compression. 2-Anchorage length La The distance that the reinforcement extends from the point where the bars are no longer required to resist moments 3-Splice length LS The distance require to transfer the force from bar to another one to upload full presentation please download this  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1layyDvTlJOLzo3jfoW4K5O5UEkgoEzgN/view?usp=sharing

KEYSTONE RETAINING WALL

 Introduction:- Keystone is a mechanical stabilized earth wall MSEW which used to retain soil from one side, it's less cost than concrete walls. Material  1-Keystone Blocks 2-Fiberglass Pins 3-Geo-grids 4- Back-filling Material 5-Concrete pad  Different type of Geogrid:  TT045 can carry load till 45KN/m. TT060 can carry load till. 60KN/m. TT090 can carry load till 90KN/m.  TT120 can carry load till 120KN/m.  TT160 can carry load till. 160KN/m. Method Statement  1) Place HDPE Geogrids on top of the compacted soil. HDPE Geogrids are installed from the front on top of the fiber glass pins (which penetrates the grid) and from to back, Geogrids are fixed horizontally using a steel bars.  2) Lay down the precast concrete units on top of a PC foundation at a level that is a Minimum of 5% from the wall height and reach 10% (buried height) to prevent any lateral movement .  3) Put the layers of Geotextile.  4) Backfilling using fine gravel b...
